What You Should Know About Commercial HVAC

Learn about your commercial HVAC systems in 2019!

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning is the system that helps keep your comfortable indoors throughout the year. Commercial HVAC systems are different from residential setups and have different requirements when it comes to maintenance and repair. Business owners and commercial property managers should have some basic knowledge about what it takes to maintain and operate a commercial HVAC system. Here’s what you should know about commercial HVAC.

Preventative Maintenance

As a commercial property owner or manager, you should schedule preventative maintenance to be performed at least twice a year; in the spring for your cooling systems and in the fall for heating. It’s best to have these services completed by HVAC professionals as they’ll be able to provide a thorough inspection and offer suggestions for keeping your system in top condition.

All About Filters

Filters are one component of HVAC systems that probably require the most frequent attention. They should be inspected once every three to four weeks to make sure that they aren’t clogged with debris. Because they impact indoor air quality, it’s necessary to keep them clear. The filters should be completely changed every six months. Not only do they affect indoor air quality, but clogged filters can also make HVAC systems work harder and use more energy. Clean filters can cut energy consumption by up to 15 percent.

Program Thermostats

Programmable thermostats make it more efficient to save money and energy. When you connect the thermostats to the building’s automation system, you’ll able to create schedules that help optimize its use. Check the thermostat programming system at the beginning of each season.

System Checks

See that general system checks are performed monthly. This will include checking the drip pan and drain lines, thermostat operation, and making sure that there are no obstructions. Clean and remove all signs of mildew so that the system can run efficiently and clearly.
